Book Bags Grant Application Due

Date: September 30, 2010
Time: 4:30 PM
Location: 870 Portage Ave.

The Literacy Committee of Communities 4 Families has been working on Family Literacy manuals to help community groups run Family Literacy projects in the downtown.  The draft manual of Book Bags is now complete and we are seeking organizations from the downtown to partner with us to pilot the manuals before our final editing.

A Book Bag is a family literacy tool that brings reading to life and encourages reading in a fun and safe way. It is a great way for children and adults to read together. Book Bags are not for sale; they are made by the community.  The draft manual includes all the information you would need to run a two day workshop to create some of these wonderful bags.

Your role in partnering with us would be to run this workshop, with a goal of having 10 participating families who will all go home with one Book Bag each, and to complete an evaluation to let us know how you experienced using the manual itself.  Your comments and suggestions will be used to edit the manual before it becomes available online from our website.

As a partner you will need to provide the facilities to run this workshop, and the relationships with families you know.  Communities 4 Families will supply the money you require to cover all other costs, up to $2000.  A mentor will be available for an initial meeting as well as further consultation as needed.  We would hope you would run the workshop, provide feedback, and complete any financial reporting within two months of receiving approval from us.

If you are interested in working with us in this, please complete the attached Grant Application by September 30, 2010.  For further information, please do not hesitate to email or leave a message at 475-5755.
